Carbon Preforms: Where They Are Used and Why They Matter

A carbon preform is the fiber skeleton of a carbon-carbon (C/C) part. Layers of carbon fiber are built up into the final shape first, and that structure then becomes the framework that densification fills with carbon. The quality of the preform sets the strength, thermal behavior, and service life of everything made from it.

Dehong supplies three preform lines for demanding high-temperature work: deposition furnace liners, tray preforms, and brake disc preforms. The same fiber-architecture experience also goes into our photovoltaic and vacuum furnace components.

Application areas

Semiconductor manufacturing

Liners and trays for deposition furnaces that build thin films at high temperature. See our semiconductor field range.

Aerospace

Lightweight carbon structures and braking components that must hold up to extreme heat and repeated thermal shock.

Automotive braking

Brake disc preforms for braking systems that need stable friction and low weight at high temperature.

Materials processing

Trays and liners for crystal growth, heat treatment, and coating lines, including the crystal growth furnace segment.

Product features

High thermal resistance. The material withstands the extreme temperatures typical of deposition and heat treatment cycles.

Low thermal expansion. Dimensions stay stable as temperature changes, so the furnace environment stays precise and repeatable.

Thermal shock resistance. Fiber reinforcement lets the part survive fast heating and cooling without cracking.

High mechanical strength. Trays and liners keep their shape while carrying load at temperature.

Long service life. Durable construction reduces replacements and furnace downtime.

Custom sizes and shapes. Preforms are available in many dimensions and can be made to match your furnace model or drawings.

Inside a Deposition Furnace: Where Each Preform Product Sits and What It Does

The diagram shows a simplified deposition furnace in cross-section. The numbers match the components listed beside it, from the outer furnace shell to the brake disc preforms being processed inside.

Furnace shell. The sealed outer vessel holds the process atmosphere. The liner inside protects it from heat and deposits.

Deposition furnace liner (cylinder). It lines the chamber wall and keeps the process environment stable through repeated high-temperature cycles.

Liner lid. The matching lid closes the liner, holds the gas path, and shields the top of the chamber. It is part of the same liner range.

Tray preform. It supports the load securely during heating and cooling, with minimal thermal expansion.

Brake disc preforms. Stacked on the tray, these are the fiber skeletons that are densified into finished C/C braking components.

Dehong Carbon Materials: The Capability Behind Every Preform

Zhejiang Dehong Carbon Fiber Composite Material Co., Ltd. is based in the China-Singapore Industrial Park, Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. Founded in December 2021, the company grew out of a team that has worked in the carbon-carbon composite industry for more than ten years and built its own distinctive processes and production lines.

Our products serve crystal growth, vacuum heat treatment, braking systems, and new energy. Dehong is a technology-oriented enterprise focused on developing and producing high-performance carbon-based composite materials, and every preform is made in-house from fiber layout to final inspection.

Common Questions on Carbon Preforms

These are the questions furnace operators, coating lines, and braking-system makers ask most often when they evaluate carbon preforms.

What is a carbon preform, and how is it different from a finished C/C part?

A preform is the carbon fiber structure built to the part's shape before densification. A finished C/C part is what you get after that structure is filled with carbon matrix, heat-treated, and machined to size. The preform determines the fiber architecture, so it largely sets the final strength.

Which industries use deposition furnace liners, tray preforms, and brake disc preforms?

Typical users are semiconductor manufacturers, aerospace and automotive suppliers, coating companies, and materials processing and electronics plants. For furnace-side needs in other fields, see our vacuum furnace and battery ranges.

Can preforms be made to our own size and shape?

Yes. Preforms come in many sizes and shapes, including large cylinders and lids for deposition furnaces, and we can customize to your furnace model or drawings. Send dimensions and operating conditions through our contact page.

How should a deposition furnace liner be installed and maintained?

Install and align the liner carefully inside the chamber, because correct fit is essential for performance. Inspect it regularly for wear or degradation from prolonged high-temperature exposure, and replace it before damage affects the process.

Do you supply preforms only, or fully densified parts?

Both are possible. Because preforming, densification, graphitization, machining, and inspection are all handled in-house, you can specify the stage you need. Finished components such as crucible holders are built the same way.

What are the lead times, and are inspection documents available?

Lead time depends on size, geometry, and volume, and we confirm it after reviewing your drawings. Material certificates and inspection reports are available on request. Contact our team for a quote.
